Can I install a mezzanine net on my own?
You can install a hung mezzanine net on your own, it’s really easy to do it with a friend.
However, 96% of Feelnets customers do it themselves, so you can too!
To install the net you need to align the fixings, all around the periphery of the space, every 150 millimetres (appr. every 5,9 inches)
We have wood and concrete fixings (you will need anchors matching the material to set up your mezzanine net, they are sold apart).
Your parcel comes with installation guidelines, which include the following steps:

- How to put tension on the rope
- How to knot the net
You don’t need special tools to set up your installation, all tools are listed in our guidelines

Can I set up my indoor net in plasterboard walls?
It formally misadvised to set-up an horizontal net in plasterboard.
Your net will not only be fragile but also dangerous.
We strongly recommend you to use strong materials such as wood, concrete, or steel to set-up your custom net.
You will need to use the relevant fixings depending on the material that will support you net.

How to set up a custom net in an IPN beam?
An IPN beam (with a regular I shape) is simply a steel beam.
It’s really easy to install a mezzanine custom net on an IPN beam. You will need to weld hanging points every 150 mm (every 5,9 inches) on your beam.
You can also drill the beam every 150 mm (every 5,9 inches), but make sure to perfectly sand the edges of the holesto avoid any damage to the rope.
Another way is to weld a metal bar to the beam to pass the lacing rope around it (which limits the fixings to every 150 mm)
Can I fix my custom net on three sides only?
Being on a four-sided space, you must absolutely fix all four sides of your net.
As a matter of fact, without fixings on one of the sides, your net will not be strained and will be useless. You will not be able to step on it and the tension will not be balanced.
Zinc-plated eyebolts of 8x80 millimetres (appr. 0,31 x 3,1 inches) cost less than stainless steel saddles, which offers a great saving when you have to install them all around your net.
You need to pre-drill your support, then screw all the eyebolts which takes time during the set-up.
Every eyebolt can withstand 80 kgs. (176,3 pounds)
The threaded rod is 50 mm long (1,96 inches).You need to drive it inside the wall 60-70 mm deep (up to 2,75 inches deep)
Stainless steel saddles on plates are more expensive but can improve the finish
Feelnets insists that your net should be as close as possible to the fixings to leave the minimum void possible between the edge of the net and the wall.
Stainless steel saddles on plates are sold with or without screws. The screws are 5 x 50mm (0,19 x 1,9 inches) stainless steel torx head.
Can I use eyebolts and saddles on plate?
Both of them are perfectly fit to fix indoors custom house nets or safety railing nets. However, you must be aware that the eyebolt will protrude a few millimetres.
Can I put a net outdoors?
Of course!! All our nets are UV proof, and can be set indoors or outdoors.

Net Lacing
Simple or double lacing?
If you have children we advise double lacing.
Children move more than adults, and double lacing diminishes the vibrations they cause. In addition, it is more comfortable for tiny feet. Double lacing is explained in our installation booklet.
If you don’t have children you can chose simple lacing.
Can I use E 8mm lacing (0,31 inch)?
If you choose double lacing, you might want to consider using 8mm lacing, which offers a finer finish.
Can I choose between different colors and thickness?
Feelnets offers black, red, grey and blue, goingfrom 3 to 10 mm thickness (from 0,11 to 0,39 inch)
All our ropes are in polyester.
For horizontal nets, like the house net or the mezzanine net we advise 8 to 10 mm thickness (0,31 to 0,39 inch thickness)
For vertical nets like safety railings, we advise a range of between 4 and 8 mm thickness (0,15 to 0,39 inch thickness).

What is the difference between a 13×13 mm mesh and a 30×30 mm mesh?
Both are made of Polyester 3+, with equivalent strength and the same UV protection. In which framework can we install a custom-made net for Housing?
The indoor net must be installed in a solid frame. The custom net cannot be fixed to plasterboard or other non-resistant walls.
Here are the different possible scenarios; you will surely find your configuration in the examples below.
Installing the Net in a Wooden Frame
You need to verify that your beams are at least 80mm thick.
In this case, place the fixings all around the perimeter every 150mm.
Fixings proposed by Feelnets, the 8*80mm eye bolts or the cleats on a plate with 50mm screws.
Be sure to take the edge-to-edge dimensions of the void. If you don't have a perfect rectangle, you'll need to provide us with the interior diagonals for the net construction.
Installing the Mezzanine Net in Concrete Walls.
You can install a net in concrete walls, you can use the fixings proposed by Feelnets such as the 8*80mm eye bolts with suitable concrete anchors.
You will need to drill into the concrete every 150mm to fix the anchors and then screw in the eye bolt.
Installing a Custom Net in I-beams
Installing the catamaran net in a frame with I-beams, you have several options.
- Either you drill clean, well-rounded holes in the I-beam every 150mm so that the tension rope cannot rub and get damaged.
- Or you can weld a metal bar and pass the tension rope around the bar. (This option allows you not to place fixings every 150mm)
- Or you can drill and screw lifting rings with a nut every 150mm.
Installing a Residential Net with a Stove or Chimney Flue Passage
Feelnets manufactures custom nets.
If you need a cutout in the net to pass the flue, simply indicate on your plan the dimensions of the cutout to be made on the net.
To create the cutout around the flue passage, you need to make a frame so that the net can be fixed to this frame.
Indeed, the net must be fixed around the entire perimeter to obtain a good distribution of load and tension.
If you leave an unfixed space in the net, the tension will not be good and the net will not be comfortable.
Installing a Net in Hollow Brick.
It is entirely possible to fix the net in hollow brick, for this you just need to fix the eye bolts with chemical anchoring.
Feelnets does not offer chemical anchoring, but you can find it in all specialized stores.
Installation on Walls with Drywall and Insulation.
Do you have beams or a load-bearing wall behind the drywall?
In this case, you need to make sure that behind the drywall you don't have insulation or fiberglass or anything else.
Be sure you can reach a hard surface behind.
Either the surface is just behind the drywall, in which case you can stay with the 8*80mm eye bolts.
Or you have insulation in addition to the drywall to go through to reach the hard surface, in which case it's preferable to add a beam that will be fixed with lag screws and it's on this new beam (minimum 80mm thick) that you will fix the fixings for the net.
Or you use larger eye bolts like the 12x120mm or even larger if necessary.
Installation between 3 Walls with a Stairway Passage
You have 3 walls and on one side, a staircase that gives access to the mezzanine.
For the installation, you will need to add a beam or a metal bar to complete the frame.
This addition will be made at the staircase level. It is imperative that the net be fixed on all sides to obtain a good distribution of tension over the entire surface.
Installation of Interior Net between Two Windows
Check that you have a beam or load-bearing wall between the two windows.
Indeed, it will be on this wall that you can place fixings every 150mm.
We recommend nets with 30x30mm mesh to maintain light passage.
If you don't have a wall on which to attach the fixings, we advise you to stretch a metal bar between the two parallel walls.
You can pass the tension cord to tension the net around it, and you will therefore not need any fixing on this part.
Net installation on a 3-sided opening
In this case, you need to add a wooden beam to close the opening or fix a metal bar or an I-beam that will close the opening.
Once your frame is done, you just need to apply the fixings on each wall. (Count one fixing every 150mm except on the metal bar.)

Can You Install a Residential Net in Drywall?
It is absolutely forbidden to fix a residential net in a horizontal position in drywall.
Not only will the net installation not hold, but your installation will be dangerous.
We recommend hard surfaces such as wood, concrete, I-beams, or others.
Depending on the surface on which you want to hang your net, you will need to use the appropriate fixings.

How to Fix a Net to an I-beam?
An I-beam (a standard I-profile beam) is simply a steel beam.
It is entirely possible to fix a mezzanine net to an I-beam, you need to weld lifting rings every 150mm on the I-beam for this.
You can also drill holes in the I-beam every 150mm, but be careful to make the holes properly so that the cordage cannot be damaged by rubbing against the metal.
Another method is to weld a metal bar to pass the tension rope around (this option limits the fixings to every 150mm).
Can a Net be Fixed on 3 Sides?
It is imperative that all four sides of your net are fixed if we are dealing with a quadrilateral space.
Indeed, without fixing on one of the sides, your net will have no tension and will not be usable. You will not be able to walk on it and all the tension will recenter.
Which Fixing to Choose? Eye Bolt or Pad Eye on Plate?
All the net fixings offered by Feelnets are suitable for wood and concrete.
The 8*80mm galvanized steel eye bolts are cheaper to buy, which is not negligible when there are many to install around the perimeter.
Pre-drilling and screwing are required for the eye bolts, which also adds time to the installation.
The resistance is 80kg per eye bolt.
The threaded rod is 50mm long, it must be inserted at least 60-70mm.
The stainless steel pad eyes on plate are more expensive because the piece itself is prettier and offers a better finish to your installation.
Indeed, Feelnets works to ensure that your net is tensioned as close as possible to the fixings to leave the least space between the edge of your net and the wall.
The pad eyes on plate are sold with or without screws. The screws are 5*50mm in stainless steel with TORX head. The resistance is 80kg per pad eye.
Can Eye Bolts and Pad Eyes be Used?
Indeed, you can use eye bolts and pad eyes, they are perfectly suitable for fixing interior residential nets or net railings.
However, you should expect the eye bolt to protrude a few millimeters (barely visible to the naked eye).
Can a Net be Installed Outdoors?
Absolutely! All our nets are UV-treated. You can install them both indoors and outdoors.

Net Lacing
Double Lacing or Single Lacing?
We recommend double lacing if you have children.
Indeed, they are not as calm as adults and the vibrations will be dampened by the double lacing. On the other hand, it's more comfortable for young children and their little feet. The rope passage for double lacing is explained in the installation instructions.
However, if you don't have children, you can stick with single lacing.
Can I Use 8mm Rope?
You can absolutely use 8mm rope, it is actually thinner than the 10mm if you prefer to do a double lacing.
It allows for a finer finish with a thinner rope.
Do You Have Colored Rope and Different Diameters?
Feelnets offers colored rope in black, red, gray and blue in different diameters ranging from 10mm to 3mm.
All our ropes are made of polyester.
For horizontal nets such as residential nets, mezzanine nets, we recommend a diameter of 10mm or 8mm.
For vertical nets used as railings, we recommend 8-6-4mm rope.
